Strawberry week: Jam’in Jam

***English***

Last week I visited my grandma. I asked her to show me how to make her jam recipes that everyone loves. We spent a great afternoon cooking and chatting.

Here is our first, very simple recipe, perfect for apprentice chefs.

Jam without cooking
  • 8 cups of mashed strawberries (use a blender or potato masher)
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 packet of clubhouse pectin

Mix well

Keep in the freezer

We like to eat this jam with crepes or pancakes in the winter!

Summer is Coming

You know that summer is coming when… fiddle heads grow along the rivers.

Once a year, I make a point of eating this local amazing green, that reminds me of an asparagus. They are fairly easy to find at the small local grocery or on the side of the street if you have some growing in your region.

Make sure to handle and cook them properly. I rinse them carefully and boiled them in water for at least 10 min. I also change the water half way through the cooking because the water gets pretty dark in colour. I stop them from cooking by transferring them into iced-cold water because I find they get quite mushy otherwise.

You can eat them with some butter, or lemon juice. I also like them with some vinegar.

If you want to use them in some pasta or sauté, you must boiled them first! Make sure to cook them well, as it is possible to get food poisoning if under cook.

BBQ night

It was a sunny Friday evening! We felt like hanging out on the patio, why not invite friends over and make some BBQ!

On the menu

White Sangria
Mediterranean Dip
Home made Burgers

For The Sangria, I mix together in a pitcher

  • A bottle of white wine Pinot Grigio
  • 1/2 cup of vodka
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • The juice of half a grapefruit
  • The juice of half a lemon
  • The juice of half a lime
  • I cut the rest of the grapefruit, lemon and lime in slices to put in pitcher

Upon serving, I place some ice cubes in the wine glasses and filled about half with Tonic water and half with Sangria.

It was very refreshing!

If you haven’t notice, I love Ricardo’s recipes! This Mediterranean dip was amazingly good! maybe we were hungry… but still everyone love it!

I made my own burger patties. I do not follow any recipe, but the basics are very simple:

  • 3 pounds of ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • about 2/3 cup of bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoon of taco seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon of burger seasoning

Don’t be shy to adjust quantities to your taste! I do not measure often, those quantities are approximate.

Also if you end up with too many patties, we just froze them raw in bags so they do not touch each other and next week if we have a craving for burgers it will be of no troubles.

Do no forget to put some cheese on your burgers and add as many toppings as possible.

Here are some pictures I took few weeks ago while having a sugar shack family party.

Maple syrup is for me as good as candy… or chocolate (which is my big weakness). Maple syrup, maple sugar or even toffee on snow! I just love it.

We say in my family that to make toffee on snow we need a master at it. Well we pretend to be toffee masters once every year. It is not very complicated to boil some maple syrup, although the timing can be a bit more tricky to get the right texture.

So much fun!

Piñata Cake Party

I instantly volunteered to bring a homemade cake for my friend’s surprise party! I was looking on Pinterest to find a her a tasty cake idea when I came across a Piñata cake! it was just the perfect idea to surprise her and everyone!!!

I also found on another blog a mint and chocolate cake recipe, which is her favorite flavour!!! I was so excited baking and icing the cake, I knew it would be a real HIT!!!

So I twisted the cake recipe a little bit, instead of adding boiling water, I put in some hot coffee. From what I understand from previous experiences, it brings out the chocolate flavor more.

I also kept some icing apart without chocolate pieces and green coloring to do the blue letters on the cake.

Then the fun part started, we had to assemble the cake… Well, I put the cake together while my boyfriend was taking pictures around the kitchen!

  5. I used tooth-pick to write in the green icing what I wanted (I could still re flatten the icing if the size or style wasn’t good before the actual final birthday icing of the cake)

  6. I finally used a decoration poach for icing and completed my previous trace, and decorated around the cake as well.

Another day of Flying!

Sometimes I wish I was still in school, where everything was so easy. I felt so free and accomplished while attending University. I feel that the grown up world can be pretty harsh and too full of responsibilities… you must ″know my mean″ !

When I get overwhelmed by my working environment like that, there is nothing better than a good day of flying to bring me back on track. Good weather and beautiful landscapes always makes me feel more comfortable with my career choice and my different duties to it.

I like to remind myself that I am lucky. Still pretty young and already doing a job that I like. Working hard to furthermore accomplish myself into building this amazing career. I truly wish you can say the same about your life!

Life is not a piece of cake, but sometimes we need to eat a double portion when it is a really good chocolaty one! @mimijetwomen

Sharing with you couple new pictures of flying this week taken with a new lens. Hope you like it!

Macro Shots

Couple weeks ago, my lover bought some cheap extension tubes to start doing some macro photography. Nothing fancy, but very fun to play with. I have to admit, those first pictures aren’t perfect but I thought it would be fun to share them anyway.

Mon copain a acheté il y a quelques semaines des tubes d’extension peu dispendieux pour faire de la macro photographie. Voici mes premiers essais. Les photos ne sont pas parfaites mais je voulais les partager quand même.

Winter Photography

Every pictures on my blog are mine or my boyfriend’s shots.
I am personally fairly new to it. I use a canon rebel DSLR camera and most of the pictures are taken with my favorite lens a 50 mm. For those who understand photography, this type of lens is very good to play with the aperture and make blurry backgrounds.
I took those shots last week, hope you like it!
